Interesting drag times. You might be right about the ambient temps and humidity. Anything turbo will be affected more than people realise. Remembering back to your last Triton GLS review (around August), the times were far better (and better than the Dmax). Have personally smoked Bi-Turbo rangers lol. But none of this matters, they're not sports cars at the end of the day. Personally love my MV GSR. I've had many curious people come up to talk about it, plenty that have been passenger have loved it and commented on the significant difference from the previous MR model. Definitely the safety tech (driver monitor) can be a sore point, but shouldn't be a deal breaker for prospective buyers - we've found a way to permananently circumvent this within a couple minutes with nothing more than a drink in hand, and easily reversible. I like the Dmax with the new face, but the Triton is just that little bit better for me. Pricing is a bit much now for the Dmax and you're not really getting much more ute for the money. Fairly sure they're still plagued by the sun visor hitting the mirror too....slight oversight by Isuzu! Like anything, there's room for improvement with the Triton, but these things are a good bit of kit compared to the past Tritons and should not be overlooked. Good honest no BS review!!
beating a ranger will be about timing and how the engine systems respond at that exact time - especially with a torque converter auto. if you happen to spool up the torque converter and turbo at just the right time, and the ranger (or anything else) is off beat a bit - you win.
going by your found stats, triton has better resale cost. dmax looses 18 grand while triton only looses 16 grand and considering the dmax costs 10 grand more I would be happier loosing an extra % on a lower number in this case
I used to run a large nation fleet way back, big ticket fails? transmissions (early Ranger), had a few engines also go kaboom (D40 Navara and I think MR? Triton with the 2.5L), the niggle issues is what drives you crazy like electric switches failing (every D40 Navara we had in the fleet), other crap like consumables also drive you nuts for example Ford Ranger have excellent tyre life, GMH Colorado? poor, on the reverse side the GMH Colorado has excellent brake rotor and brake pad wear the Ford Ranger have poor lifespans. quality of interior material is also found to be wanting no matter the manufacturer, some last but most fade. I can recall reading fuel economy data sheets and then going to meetings begging the financial people to stop using E10 unleaded as it was actually costing us more than 91 RON but those idiots in financial control said no due to a sub committee that voted to have lower Co2 emissions for the petrol fleet even though the use of E10 was actually being used more thus more Co2. you can't make that shit up. Pro tip: if your manufacture says its ok to do 12 months / 15,000km between services I would recommend you do at a minimum oil and oil filter change at 6 months and 7,500km just to ensure life of the engine.
far far better Mitsubishi Triton GSR than D-MAX comparison driving experience2.4 L vs 3.0 L original stock engine from japan no modification like in Thailand drag race , Mitsubishi Triton smaller engine but king of the champion 😂🎉
Great test, there is not much in it. The thing that swayed me to the Isuzu platform (in the form of a Mazda BT-50) was less annoying "safety" features and the huge range of aftermarket accessories, suspension/GVM upgrades, bullbars, recovery bars, canopies which is currenlty lacking in the newer Mitsubishi model. That and excellent deals and availability with Mazda without the Isuzu pricing anomalies across the model range, and the materially better after sales service and support, and the headroom in the higher capacity 3.0L 4JJJ engine for tuning and improved towing made the Mitsubishi a non starter for me (at this point in time) and thats despite wanting the superior super Select AWD/4WD system in the Triton which outclases whats on offer in the Isuzu platform. As time goes on with availabiity of aftermarket options and when the newer Mitsubishi engine becomes a known quantity I think it will be harder to pick between them and probably lean more in Tritons favour.
This was a great acceleration test, i would definitely pick the triton because of the full time awd super select system, which the dmax does not have. Can you do content on the difference full time awd makes in a ute vs not having it on wet roads .i have seen many utes crash on wet roads. The dmax is one of the vehicles that crashes the most followed by the np 200 navara
I did some back to back runs with my mates ranger V6 and my new GSR. Absolutely nothing in it 😂, basically the ranger slightly pulls away initially off the line and then we are locked side by side to about 120kmh. DMS also takes 2mins to unplug, first thing i did, along with the stop start system which can be tricked by unplugging the bonnet latch sensor.
The Triton's over-zealous safety tech makes the Koreans seem chilled... and that's saying something. I had issues just wearing sunglasses; the software seem to think it's safer to driver while completely blinded by the sun. Great video mate, thanks for that!

No, I thought that might be a bit unfair. I doubt the results would be much different anyway; better traction off the line, yes, but more driveline load. I was going to run them both in 4WD just to see the difference. Obviously not good for the D-Max to run in 4H on tarmac but in a straight line it should be fine for one run. Then just switch back to 2H before turning.

You should have taken one acceleration in 4H (open dif) on the L200/Triton, because of the torque it loses a lot of momentum at launch
